When breastfeeding dyads have struggled for months — desperately cycling through providers, interventions, and heartbreak — the path forward requires more than basic lactation support. This advanced course for IBCLCs explores the unique clinical and relational demands of supporting older infants and their families through persistent challenges, including latch dysfunction, pain, low milk supply, and breast refusal. Participants will develop a broader diagnostic lens for identifying the compounding factors that make these cases increasingly complex over time, and will build skills for conducting thorough, wide-angle assessments that go beyond reflex-driven newborn frameworks. Participants will explore strategies for effective interdisciplinary collaboration and will strengthen their ability to hold space for families who are exhausted, vulnerable, and deeply committed to continuing their breastfeeding journey.
